Galena Ground Water District

A topographic map showing terrain, towns like Ketchum and Hailey, and marked boundaries.

This ground water district was created in November of 2015. The district encompasses 280 square miles from Galena Summit to the Glendale Road area south of Bellevue and includes 350 water rights holders and 470 wells with a total of 267 cubic feet per second of groundwater rights.

The district now includes anybody who has a well. But not everyone was allowed to vote – only those with irrigation rights and at least .02 cubic feet of water rights. “Non-irrigators were given 60 days to petition into the district. After that, it becomes an involved process.”

The district’s first meeting took place on November 18, 2015, and the first assessments were mailed by December 1st, 2015.
